 Reaction to ride:
Watching the ride was a really fun and surprising experience, I really enjoyed how the ride started off very similarly to the previous Pirates of the Caribbean rides, but it suddenly takes a turn to something new and action-filled that wasn't there in the older rides. I especially was surprised by how good the animatronics were (especially the skeleton that just turns into Jack Sparrow!! HOW???), they were really fun to watch! One thing I enjoyed about it was that you could follow the story without having to understand the dialogue, and even as someone watching a video of the ride, it was very immersive!

Discuss the Elements of the Work:
The set-pieces used in the ride (the ships, treasure, animatronics) utilized alongside screens was very interesting and it worked very well, especially with the ride's use of framing the screens. Parts of ships and other large objects obscured parts of the screens and led the viewer's eye to exactly where they needed to go at all times! The music was also very exciting and added a lot to the ride's adventurous atmosphere- playing the theme song to Pirates of the Caribbean while watching the characters fight while slowly backing away into a sinking ship would have made me feel like I was in the movie for sure if I had been there!

For me, this ride was very exciting and exhilarating to watch (and i'm sure it is more so when you are actually riding it), and it honestly made me want to go all the way to Shanghai just to experience it! It was overall really interesting to watch from a technological standpoint as well- I see a lot of parks attempt to use screens in their rides, but it really takes me out of it (like the Harry Potter and Kong rides at Universal...). This ride used the screens in a way that didn't feel too forced or fake because the real-life set of the ride had a more dominant role in using the space- the screens weren't secondary, but they weren't overdone either.

If I could adapt this work to fit with another medium, I think it would be interesting to adapt it to a VR game. Essentially, the biggest change would be that the viewer has the ability to explore the story themselves, rather than at the mercy of the ride's track. You would be able to interact with the characters and story firsthand- but as someone really taking part of it, rather than someone caught in the thick of it (which is a role most dark-rides like this seem to give to the audience, from what I remember). The viewer could help Captain Jack Sparrow fight Davy Jones themselves, which is a type of immersion that is more personal, but equally as fun!
