Planet- Description of Flora & Fauna

Worldbuilding Planet Project-

This planet's land is mostly made up of a winding mass of islands that appear in the shape of a serpent (because, why not). Overall, the planet's climate is hot and humid in the summers- with a few arid mountainous regions along some of the island shores.
Due to this planet's strong tilt, the winters are also especially harsh- however the flora in the lush forests of the planet have adapted to survive the winter with their ability to store energy from sunlight for long periods of time- generating a self-heating system. Likewise, a large sum of the creatures in the planet's mainland have adapted the ability to grow a thick coat of feathers (and some additionally gain blubber, like a seal) for the winter.

Due to the flora of the planet keeping its leaves all year-round, the atmosphere of the planet is plentiful with oxygen- allowing for life to grow significantly larger than that of Earth. The majority of creatures in the planet's mainland ecosystems are reptilian and serpent-like in appearance- however they have hollow bones like birds, and most are capable of flight. Unlike birds, the flying 'serpents' of this planet do not have any legs/extra limbs, instead they have long flexible serpentine bodies with tails that are covered in sharp spines. Depending on the species, the spines are built to grab and collect prey/vegetation while the creature is passing through the brush.
Larger carnivorous species use their spiked tails for luring and killing prey, while smaller herbivore species tend to use their tails out of self-defense.

The apex predators of the ecosystem are more akin to large bats than reptilians, with wings that can span up to 25 feet wide. Additionally, these larger predators are more similar to mammals in biology- giving live birth and providing nursing for their young. They are typically lone nocturnal hunters, however some have been known to temporarily hunt in small packs of 3-4, helping each other take down larger and more dangerous prey species.
Additionally, because this planet is moonless, the night-time is especially dark- so predators have adapted to seeing so clearly at night, that an overexposure to daylight can damage their eyes.
